As a woman, we tend to constantly compare ourselves to other women. Is she more successful than me? Is she prettier than me? Does she have a better wardrobe than me? Is her job better than mine? Does she look that perfect when she wakes up?!
We can sometimes get all consumed in comparing our lives with our favourite celeb, our favourite blogger, our insta crush or even the admin girl from work who might be on minimum wage but totally looks like she has her shit together 24/7! Am I right? Hell yes I’m right! I’ve been there, I’ve done it, I’ve worn every bloody t shirt.
Who run the world? GIRLS! Think about it, in almost every aspect of life, there’s sure to be some girl power behind it. Did you know that women owned businesses have increased by a whopping 68% since 1997!
Social media has made entrepreneurship more accessible than ever, and this is exactly how my business began. Not everyone has thousand of pounds stacked up in the bank or gifted from a family member to open their own boutique, spa or high street business. Making a start online is like opening the door to Narnia, and enjoying the ride while you make your fortune from the comfort of your own sofa.
Women are taking ownership. They’re building brands, creating companies and building lives for themselves that allow them to live life on their own terms. A life of freedom and creativity. Sounds better than lining someone else’s pocket, doesn’t it?!
The most exhilarating feeling I’ve ever felt to date was that moment I wrote my notice to my boss just over a year ago. It wasn’t the typical move from one employee job to another, with a £5000 pay increase per year and a company car, still sat in the same traffic every morning, listening to the same radio station with the same packed lunch and the same 9-5.
I wrote that letter with butterflies in my tummy, because I was leaving employment to spread my wings in my journey of entrepreneurship, empowering and inspiring women and indeed, embarking on a life controlled only by me. I’ll never forget it. No more Sunday afternoon dread and Monday morning blues! Eeeeeeep!
I’ve had knock backs and negativity thrown at me from all directions, it’s tough! But what’s tougher is spending the next 40 years working for someone else under their rules, and being limited in a world where you can’t create the life you desire. You have one, just one life. I intend to make mine a good one every day I’m here.
Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be? Trust your own brilliance, don’t let anybody stand in your way!
Stop comparing! Right now, this second! You can have any life you dream of, it’s there waiting for you. The best gift you have is staring at you every time you look in the mirror – “there is only one of you.”
